Getting better...

Well I think school is getting better for both of the girls. They are extremely tired but I'm hoping as they get used being back in school that this too will get better. Tierney was much happier today when I picked her up. She only had one negative thing to say about school so that is a plus. Tay had much less homework tonight and only an hours worth last night so she's actually enjoying hanging out messing with her IPod. I'm hoping that we are headed in the right direction.

One thing towards the end of last year was that Tierney was chasing boys at recess and they were chasing her. Marshall and I just shook our heads and try to remind her that we don't need to be worrying about boys. Well today she came home and informed me that some boys were chasing her at recess today and she did the peace sign, kissed it, told them peace out and goodbye and then they left her alone. Oh man I was dying when she was telling me this and showing me what she did. Of course she shook her hips and said it all sassy. She probably scared them! We are going to have our hands full with her!

Tierney

Oh our little Tierney is just something. She is really big into rules and if a teacher or someone (other than us) tell her something she thinks it is the law. Well she was having a meltdown earlier and Marshall was scolding her. She then informed him he was being a bucket tipper. Then hours later went into a big speech how he really needs to try to be a bucket filler and not a bucket tipper because that is what her principal told her. She was also upset the other night because her teacher told them to do something and did not say please so she wasn't showing good character. Oh boy what do you say to that?!

School

Well this week of school hasn't started off much better. Tay has been doing homework for almost two hours. I'm sorry but that is ridiculous in fifth grade. School comes so easy to her but she is very frustrated at this point. I'm hoping this is not going to be a regular occurrence... if so we are going to have to re-evaluate some of our evening activities.

Tierney seemed happy when we picked her up. Then we got home and her bag and papers were soaked from her water bottle. And I discovered a note that one of the four kindergarten rooms has mold as well as an entire other grade. Guess what her room is the room with mold. She said they had to move to the library.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that after we get through the bumps of the first couple of weeks that things will get better. I am really hoping.

Party

Tierney, Hailey, Great Grandma Arlene, Tay, Great Grandpa Bill
Tierney and Tay with Great Grandma and Grandpa Hollar
Grandpa and Grandma with their children and in-laws
Hailey, Tierney, Jade
We celebrated my grandparents' seventieth birthdays yesterday. Tierney had a lot of fun playing with Hailey and Jade. She was filthy by the time we left last night. They had a really good turn out for the party.

First week of school...

Well the first week of school was a little rough. Tierney did not enjoy her first full day of school and Tay was exhausted after a couple of days. By Friday when I picked Tierney up things were mcuh better. She seemed happy about school. I think it is just going to take her some time to get used to going all day five days a week. Tomorrow she actually wants to eat at school (so far she has brought her lunch everyday) but is very worried about how she will carry her tray. She is trying to convince one of us to have lunch with her. So far Tay seems to like all of her teachers but is just tired in the mornings. Last week was a short week and this week will be a full week so hopefully it goes well. I think we will have some tired girls by Friday.

Tierney First Day of Kindergarten

Tierney started kindergarten today. Surprisingly I didn't cry when I left the school. She was excited and nervous. Last night she informed us that she didn't want to go to school all day even though last year she wanted to and we never caved. She was up at 6:30 this morning asking when it was time to leave! After she got dressed and I did her hair she had to put on some lip gloss and then went to the mirror to check herself over. She then proudly stated "wow I look great". Marshall and I were dying. Her preschool teacher from last year was in her room this morning so I think that helped. She was ready to stay once we were there... I can't wait to hear how her first day went! I had to plan a busy day for myself to try not to worry about her all day. Luckily she got several kids in her class that she knows! I just can't believe our baby is in school all day. I am not sure where the past five years have gone!

Tay first day of Fifth Grade

Tay officially started middle school yesterday. In New Hampton fifth grade through eigth grade is middle school. She was not ready to go back. Tay likes to sleep in way to much to get up by seven for school. We had an orientation with her in the morning and then got to check out her locker and her homeroom. She will now switch classes for every class and won't have the same kids in each class. When she came home she seemed to like all of the teachers she met with yesterday so that is a plus. Today they get to go swimming so hopefully that will help her be a little more excited about school! I think this is the first year that she has seemed to care about what she wears to school!

Summer

Wow where did the summer go? It seems like it flew by this year. Tay's last day of vacation was Monday and Tierney's was yesterday. We spent the last week going to the aquatic center in Cedar Falls, having friends over, and going to Adventureland. Yesterday was Tay's first day of school but Tierney doesn't start until today. So she got to go to the park and play at McDonalds. I just cannot believe how fast it went. Here our some pictures of Adventureland. We went with my parents, Nate, and Hailey. It was really hot but the girls had a blast!
